Under NATO’s banner, the nations of Europe put aside rivalries that had divided the continent for centuries. NATO members stood watch on freedom’s borders for two generations of the Cold War. Because of NATO’s vigilance, free people lifted the Iron Curtain, and tore down the Berlin Wall and replaced dictators with democratic governments.
— President George W. Bush

The point in history at which we stand is full of promise and danger. The world will either move forward toward unity and widely shared prosperity - or it will move apart.
— Franklin D. Roosevelt
A strong E.U., a strong NATO, and a true strategic partnership between them is profoundly in our interest.
— Senator John McCain
America’s commitment to collective defense under Article 5 of NATO is a sacred obligation in our view - a sacred obligation not just for now, but for all time.
— Vice President Joe Biden
When times are tough and people are frustrated and angry and hurting and uncertain, the politics of constant conflict may be good, but what is good politics does not necessarily work in the real world. What works in the real world is cooperation.
— President William J. Clinton
