Jake joined CNN in January 2013. He currently hosts a one-hour weekday program, The Lead with Jake Tapper, which debuted in March 2013, and has hosted CNN's Sunday morning show, State of the Union, since June 2015.

Because of CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper's coverage of the 2016 election and the first year of the Trump presidency, Jake's profile has never been higher. But his commitment to veterans' issues is longstanding and deeply felt. He is the author of The Outpost: An Untold Story of American Valor, that chronicled one of the deadliest battles for U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

The time he spent with those soldiers and their families marked him, and he considers it a personal responsibility to use his platform as one of the country's best-known journalists to shine a light on issues affecting veterans and their families. His daily broadcast, The Lead, regularly highlights stories of soldiers re-integrating into civilian life, and their contributions to all aspects of American life. He also hosted CNN's first-ever Commander-in-Chief town hall, where President Obama took questions from soldiers at Fort Lee. That broadcast has been nominated for an Emmy.
